Leading people on the path to discover hope, meaning & purpose
Welcome to Maria Diaz, LMHC!
*****Update: Nothing is more important to me than your health and wellness. As we all continue to be impacted by COVID-19, it's important to recognize our responsibility in following the CDC guidelines. At this time I am only offering Telehealth appointments until further notice.******
My goal as a therapist is to empower you through the therapeutic process by promoting your mental health and well being. I strive to create a therapeutic alliance where you feel safe and comfortable while entrusting me as your therapist. I understand that life can be difficult and setbacks can be challenging, with the right support I believe you can get through this.
I Love helping people live their full potential by leading them on the path to discover hope, meaning and purpose.
MARIA DIAZ, LMHC
My values as a therapist are held on the belief that decisions should be shared and that therapy is collaborative. Clients are empowered to overcome obstacles that have interfered with living a well meaningful life. I incorporate evidence-based practices from a trauma-informed and person centered perspective.
My Approach as a Therapist:
My approach is tailored to meet the diversity of each individual client. I use various evidenced based approaches borrowed and adapted to help my clients. I am culturally sensitive and understand that client's needs vary. My ideal client is motivated to change and prepared to do the work. As an ally I use my professional expertise to help clients accomplish their self identified goals.
My favorite therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). I have personally and professionally witnessed people reduce stress, cope with complicated relationships, deal with grief, and face many common life challenges with the help of CBT.
I love to learn and find new ways and approaches to helping people. I am trained in providing Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivation Interviewing, Person Centered Therapy, Mindfulness and other evidence based practices.
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) I have been trained in counseling and psychotherapy. I specialize in working with adults who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, difficulty with adjusting to a life altering event, trauma or other circumstances that require a safe non judgmental approach.
A Little About me:
In 2009 I graduated with my Masters in Counseling, after graduating I decided to take the opportunity to enhance my skills through various direct and leadership roles. In 2016 I returned to school and earned an Advanced Certificate of Mental Health Counseling, while I continued evolving as a Mental Health Professional.
I have been helping people create a brighter future for over 15 years. I’ve held various roles as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and I also, currently, hold the position of Clinical Director with a non for profit organization.
Immigration Evaluation Services (Westchester County & NYC): I work with clients by using my professional clinical expertise to provide hardship waiver evaluations. Through my assessment, that includes various psychosocial and psychological factors, I evaluate whether my client would experience extreme hardship if their family member were to be deported.
I offer psychosocial evaluations for immigration cases such as Hardship Waivers (I-601 and I-601A).
I strive to create a compassionate and caring environment for clients. I am culturally sensitive and understand that client's needs vary. My approach is tailored to meet the diversity of each individual client. I work closely with attorneys and their clients to provide a thorough and efficient evaluation process in a safe and welcoming environment.
“ I have known Maria professionally for well over a decade. Maria is the best type of clinician - intelligent and modality focused but deeply feeling and connects to people on the most human level. Maria is a consummate professional. I’ve never seen her doing less than her best work, even when she thinks no one is looking.”
“Maria is a great listener and always available for an appointment. She has really made helping me with my issues a priority during our sessions. I would highly recommend her services.”
