Hello to our amazing community,

As September comes to a close and we officially welcome fall, Living Purpose Mental Health Counseling is excited to share several meaningful updates from our practice.

This season has been filled with professional growth, expanded trauma-focused services, and new opportunities to make therapy more accessible within our community.

Thank you for continuing to trust our team and allowing us to be part of your journey toward healing and greater emotional wellness.

🎓 Continued Growth in Trauma-Focused Care 🎓

Maria Diaz

This month, our Founder and CEO, Maria Diaz, LMHC-D, LPC, attended an intensive clinical trauma training retreat and earned the Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) designation.

This new credential builds upon Maria’s existing work as an EMDR Certified Therapist and strengthens her ability to support individuals navigating trauma, complex trauma, and other distressing life experiences.

Ongoing education is an important part of the work we do at Living Purpose. Our clinicians are committed to continually developing their knowledge and clinical skills so that our clients receive compassionate, thoughtful, and evidence-based care.

🌱Welcoming Our New Clinical Resident🌱

Vanessa McClaney
Vanessa McClaney
We are excited to welcome Vanessa McClaney, who joined Living Purpose Mental Health Counseling as a Clinical Resident on September 2, 2026.

Vanessa brings a wealth of experience to her work, along with a warm and compassionate approach to supporting clients. She is also a certified yoga instructor and brings an understanding of the connection between emotional wellness, physical awareness, and the body’s response to stress.

We are delighted to have Vanessa join our team and look forward to the knowledge, perspective, and care she will bring to our practice community.

Vanessa Is Now Accepting New Clients!

Vanessa is currently accepting new clients for virtual therapy sessions.

She offers:
  • Sliding-scale sessions starting as low as $30
  • A limited number of pro bono scholarship openings
  • Compassionate, trauma-informed support
  • Convenient virtual services

These reduced-fee opportunities are designed to help individuals access quality mental health care when finances might otherwise create a barrier.

🧠 Expanding EMDR Services with Keyaira Hamilton 🧠

Keyaira Hamiton
Keyaira Hamiton
We are proud to recognize Keyaira Hamilton for her continued professional and clinical development.

Keyaira has been participating in intensive EMDR training and is now beginning to incorporate EMDR into her work with appropriate clients under supervision.

EMDR—Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing—is a structured, evidence-based therapy approach that may help clients process traumatic or distressing experiences. EMDR is introduced thoughtfully, with careful attention to each client’s readiness, stability, and individual treatment needs.

Keyaira continues to provide compassionate, trauma-informed therapy and also offers sliding-scale sessions for individuals seeking affordable mental health support.

We are excited to see Keyaira continue expanding her clinical skills and providing additional trauma-focused options to the clients and communities we serve.

📚 What We’re Reading📚

The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For?

By Rick Warren

Our Founder and CEO, Maria Diaz, is currently reading The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For? by Rick Warren.

This faith-centered book encourages readers to reflect on purpose, meaning, personal values, and the ways we choose to live our lives. It invites readers to look beyond everyday routines and consider the larger questions that may shape their direction, relationships, and personal growth.

This selection feels especially meaningful to our practice because of its focus on living with intention and discovering purpose—values that are closely connected to the mission and name of Living Purpose Mental Health Counseling.

As a practice, we recognize that purpose can look different for everyone. For some, it may involve faith. For others, it may be found through relationships, service, creativity, healing, community, or becoming more connected to oneself.

A reflection to consider: What would it look like to live more intentionally and remain connected to what gives your life meaning?

What My Bones Know: A Memoir of Healing from Complex Trauma

by Stephanie Foo

Keyaira Hamilton is currently reading What My Bones Know, a powerful memoir exploring the lasting effects of childhood abuse and complex trauma. Through the author’s personal journey, the book offers insight into how early traumatic experiences can affect emotional well-being, relationships, and daily functioning—and what healing from complex trauma can look like.

The Year I Met My Brain

by Matilda Bosely

Vanessa McClaney is currently reading The Year I Met My Brain by Matilda Bosely. It's a non-clinical book about a reporter who shares her post-diagnosis journey with adult ADHD. It's insightful while being an easy read for anyone interested in navigating life after a new ADHD diagnosis later in life.
